Brendan is a former Australian Army Officer, Afghanistan Veteran, and theprevious host of the popular podcast The Bloke Cast. After requiring two spinal surgeries, Brendan was medically discharged from the Australian Defence Force in 2016. He was diagnosed with severe depression and anxiety, which, coupled with the loss of his career, led him down a dark path almost resulting in him taking his own life. However, Brendan refused to give up and instead fought back against his physical and mental injuries. He's now a passionate mental health advocate who inspires audiences to start their own journey towards holistic health.

In a world where mental health illnesses are increasingly prevalent, Brendan shares his personal story of going from the peak of his military career to almost committing suicide. Through his own battles with physical injury, opioid use, and mental health struggles, he's gained valuable insights and strategies that he shares with audiences.

Brendan presents an innovative approach to dealing with mental health in the workplace through his "Start with Kindness" model. This easy-to-use model provides organisations with a framework to educate people about mental health and create a culture of kindness and empathy.

As a speaker, Brendan connects with audiences of all ages and backgrounds. His hard-hitting inspirational story, combined with actionable strategies, makes him a must-have speaker for any event focused on mental health, leadership, and resilience.

Brendan speaks on the following topics:

  • Mental Health: Brendan shares his own experiences with mental health struggles and provides strategies for improving mental wellbeing.
  • Leadership in the Workplace: Brendan draws from his military, civilian and coaching experience to provide insights on leadership and teamwork in the workplace.
  • Resilience: Brendan discusses the importance of resilience and how to cultivate it in oneself and others.
