Dubbed the “Brené Brown of Down Under” by those who have heard her story, Alexa Towersey AKA "Action Alexa", is a powerful voice and positive role model in the health and fitness industry. Her recent triumph on Discovery Channel’s highest rated reality series, Naked and Afraid (Season 17) saw her survive 21 days in the Colombian jungle, showcasing her mental toughness, compassion and infectious humour which quickly captivated audiences worldwide.
Growing up in a military family, Alexa’s mission for muscles began amidst adversity, overcoming childhood bullying with a dedication to fitness. Nicknamed "Alexa Anorexa" in school, she found solace and strength in the gym, shaping not only her physique but also her unwavering mental fortitude. Her mantra, "When I feel physically strong, I think strong thoughts" underscores her belief in the profound connection between physical and mental well-being.
This 3 x cover model is a firm favourite with the media as a ‘go-to’ fitness authority, Alexa has appeared on CNN, Bloomberg and Channel 9s Weekend Today as their fitness expert, hosted both Maxim Fitness TV on 7 Mate and a series of Asia’s Next Top Model, was the head trainer for Strong Fitness Magazine Australia with a bimonthly mental health focused column, “Living Strong with Lex” and the “gains guru” for Maxim Magazine with a monthly fitness column.
Her training credentials include a Bachelor of Science, majoring in Biology and Psychology, postgraduate papers in Sports Management and Kinesiology, and full certification with the legendary Gym Jones (responsible for the physiques in 300 and Superman). Her high-profile clientele is diverse - from touring with Julia Michaels (alongside Keith Urban on his Australia Tour); to being contracted by Warner Bros to prepare Josh Lawson for his role as Kano in Mortal Kombat; through to being responsible for keeping the stunt crew of “Thor: Love & Thunder” in condition and uninjured whilst in Sydney.
In 2022, she completed the World’s longest and toughest horse race, “The Mongol Derby” (1000 kms across the Mongolian Desert on semi-wild horses), winning the coveted Nomad award for resilience in the process.
Beyond her media presence, Alexa uses her knowledge and lived experience to give back as a passionate advocate for mental health delivering impactful keynotes worldwide, highlighted by a US
based tour opening for internationally acclaimed Suicide Prevention Crusader Kevin Hines. She is a popular podcast guest, with her journey to sobriety (16 years sober) inspiring her very own collaboration with Listnr, “How Fitness Saved my Life.”
