A proud Western Arrernte woman, Karla is an award-winning journalist, producer and presenter with an illustrious media career spanning three decades.
Karla is host of SBS and NITV’s Living Black, the longest-running Indigenous current affairs program on Australian television, and regularly reports across SBS World News, Insight, Dateline and NITV News.
Karla’s career has been studded with accolades, including two Walkley Awards, for Outstanding Contribution to Journalism and Coverage of Indigenous Affairs. She has received four Kennedy Awards for Outstanding Indigenous Affairs Reporting and Outstanding Reporting on the Environment, and an Amnesty International Media Award for Indigenous Affairs Reporting. Karla is also the recipient of several First Nations Media Awards (FNMA) for her interviews and programs, as well as being honoured with a FNMA Lifetime Achievement Award.
She regularly MCs and delivers keynote speeches at large events and galas across Australia including the National NAIDOC Ball and Awards, events for National Reconciliation Week and International Women’s Day.
