Green is a former AFL footballer, he was drafted in 1999 to the Melbourne Demons and played in a losing Grand Final in his first season. Green played 13 seasons for the Demons and captained the club in 2011. He played 254 games for the club and kicked 350 goals. Green had the honour of playing for Australia in the International rules series against Ireland. He played in 2004, 2010 and 2011 and was the Australian captain in 2011. Green retired at the end of the 2012 season. He then became an assistant coach at the Carlton Blues in 2013 and stayed in that role till the end of the 2015 season. He is currently an assistant coach at the North Melbourne Kangaroos .
