Coming into season seven of AFLW's second-year ruck Sarah Lakay had big shoes to fill tasked with leading the ruck's retirement when she was drafted as the West Coast Eagles ruck in 2021. The then 19-year-old was outstanding in her new role earning herself a Rising Star nomination after an impressive showing against Fremantle in round five where she had 42 hit-outs. Her athletic ability and football smarts have been invaluable assets for the team this season and she will be a central cog within this Eagles' side for seasons to come. Sarah has been an integral part of the development of the young side at West Coast and is striving to be one of the better rucks in the competition.
On the side, Sarah is currently teaching at Murdoch University and has a passion for young students and people who want to get out there and learn. Sarah works very closely with students with high support needs whether that be from a diverse point of you or from a learning point of view and additionally works within student services and as an Education Assistant at Kiara College.
