About Wayne Rooney
Wayne Rooney was born in Croxteth, Liverpool, United Kingdom. He was raised in a council house, and like most boys in England, Wayne’s dream was always to become a footballer.
Younger football years
Wayne joined Everton Football Club's academy at the age of 9 and by the time he reached 16 years of age, Wayne announced himself to the world by scoring a spectacular winning goal in the last minute to end a monumental 30 game winning streak by Arsenal. It was during that feat which Wayne also became the English Premier League's youngest ever goal scorer.
Career milestones and highlights
By 2004, Wayne joined one of the most successful and highest profile clubs, in Manchester United Football Club. In the process of that signing he also set a world record for the highest transfer fee for a teenager.
Wayne won a number of titles with Manchester United and had the honour of captaining both club and country. By 2015, Wayne had broken one of Sir Bobby Charlton’s records and became the England International Football team's all-time leading goalscorer. By 2017, Wayne also surpassed another of Sir Bobby’s records and was crowned the all-time leading goalscorer for Manchester United FC as well.
After his Manchester United feats and 13 years later, Wayne made a return to Everton Football Club and finished the 2017/18 season as the club’s top goalscorer.
Halfway through June in 2018, Wayne signed with D.C. United, a Club in the Unites States of America's, Major League Soccer (MLS) competition to start the next chapter of his career. Even though Wayne only played half of the season, he was the club’s top goalscorer and also made the MLS Team of the Year!
Wayne has transitioned his on-field success, into Managing teams, and is currently the Football Manager of Derby County Football Club.
