Cricket legends launch Amazon documentary

The Brief

LADbible was tasked with producing social content to celebrate the launch of Amazon’s cricket documentary ‘The Test: A New Era For The Australian Team’ on video streaming service Prime.

The documentary focused on the Australian cricket team rebuilding both its culture and its public image, so LADbible wanted to source stars from an era where the Australian cricket team was the gold standard for culture and public image.

Enter Pickstar.

LADbible submitted a brief and budget on Pickstar and the platform went to work, sourcing cricket legends from the golden era of the Australian cricket team - Adam Gilchrist and Glenn McGrath.

The pair were perfect characters to promote the series through a lighthearted piece of content featuring the test legends squaring off in the nets.

‘Gilly’ and ‘Pigeon’ were in fine form, bouncing off each other with plenty of banter along with stories from their era and reflections on the process the current team has undergone.


    The clip featuring McGrath and Gilchrist has had more than a million views on YouTube, making it one of Amazon Prime’s most viewed videos in Australia.

    It was extremely effective at driving engagement in the lead-up to the launch of The Test video series.

    The Test was released as the COVID-19 pandemic gripped the world. For streaming services like Amazon Prime, this meant people were spending more time watching streaming services.

    It proved to be hugely popular and received glowing reviews for the inner sanctum access it provided and the brutal honesty of an Australian cricket team rebuilding both a team and a public image.
