Named captain of Northampton Saints in 2009 aged just 23, Dylan led his club to the 2014 Premiership title, plus two European Challenge Cups (2009, 2014) and the Anglo-Welsh Cup (2010).

In November 2019 Dylan retired from professional rugby after failing to recover from a knee injury that prevented him leading England at the 2019 World Cup.
