Geoffrey Carran is a contemporary artist based in the pristine beach side town of Jan Juc on Victoria’s Surf Coast south of Melbourne, Australia. He has become widely recognised for his unique paintings of Australian birds and plants, adding his vibrant, energetic approach to his subject matter, producing huge murals, works on canvas, prints and drawings.

Born and raised in New Zealand he completed a Bachelor of Fine Art in 2000 then a Master of Fine Art at RMIT University in Melbourne 2008.

Geoffrey has exhibited his work throughout Australia, New Zealand, Turkey, London and New York. He has a design label Martinich&Carran with his wife and fellow artist Rowena Martinich, who he also collaborates with to create huge colourful murals, which celebrate both of their vivacious approach to painting. He has produced a design range for The National Gallery of Victoria, collaborated with Dulux on their Colour Forecasts and been a Judge for the Dulux Colour Awards. Geoffrey has been involved with workshops and teaching Art at university level as well as running community classes.

In the studio Geoffrey is often found working on commissions between larger projects. Exhibiting his paintings and prints regularly in Melbourne his murals are often off the beaten track in remote rural locations, bringing art and cultural engagement to those communities. While he generally concentrates on one or two paintings at a time, these works build a significant collection reflecting his observation, attention to detail and portraying the personality of Australia’s diverse bird life.
