Gillian Backhouse is an elite triathlete with 8 years experience competing for Australia on the world stage. Hailing from the country town of Armidale, NSW, she had an unconventional pathway into elite sport driven by passion and perseverance. Competing as an age group athlete with professional aspirations while studying Marine Biology and Ecology full time at university she learned how to successfully juggle study and training, earning both academic and sporting awards. Her journey has been anything but a straight line to the top with many highs and lows, and lessons learned along the way. With multiple accolades under her belt she is currently aiming for selection in the Australia Olympic team for Tokyo.
Gillian has a passion for sharing her story in the hope of inspiring others to reach their own potential, and sharing the lessons she has learned to help others in their own journeys. Outside of sport she is passionate about the environment and sustainability, with a degree in Marine Biology and Ecology and currently undertaking a Masters degree in Environmental Science and Management.
