Jason Gillespie is a former Australian cricketer who played all three formats of the game- Test, One Day and Twenty20. Gillespie primarily played as a right-arm fast bowler, but he was also a respected lower-order batsman- once scoring an unbeaten 201, the highest score by a night-watchman in international cricket history. Gillespie made his Test debut against the West Indies at Sydney in 1996 and his One Day International debut against Sri Lanka at Colombo in the Singer World Series in 1996. He also played for South Australia, Yorkshire and Glamorgan at first-class level. Towards the beginning of 2008, Gillespie announce his retirement from first-class cricket in Australia before a brief stint for the Anmehedabad Rockets in the Indian Cricket League.
Gillespie has gone on to have an illustrious coaching career. He started coaching various teams in Zimbabwe in 2010 before being drafted as the bowling coach of the Kings XI Punjab team in the Indian Premier League in 2011. Later that year he went on to become the first-team coach of Yorkshire for several years. In this position, he saw the team upgraded to first division where they won two titles. Gillespie went on to coach the Adelaide Strikers team in the Big Bash in 2015 and became the interim head coach for Papua New Guinea in 2017 before taking up his current position of head coach of Sussex in 2018. As of June 2019, Gillespie has 148,000 followers on his verified Twitter account.
