Dion Prestia is a humble champion of the AFL. A three-time premiership player, he is known as a genius around stoppages, and for his gut running and tackles. Dion displays his brilliance as a clean and decisive key midfielder, a fantastic transition player with an elite ability to get back and support in defence, and then get forward and hit the scoreboard - he is the ultimate team player.
Dion’s love for football began at age eight when he commenced AusKick. Having been inspired by his father who played and coached, at age 16 Dion was selected to represent Vic Metro. It was at this moment that Dion realised that he had the potential to play at a level far greater than that of the fun of school footy with his mates. Two years later, he was drafted to the Gold Coast Suns where he remained for six years. In 2017 he returned to Melbourne after being drafted to Richmond where he played an instrumental role in achieving premiership glory three times in four years. His bad run with injuries never saw him waiver from the commitment, sacrifices and dedication that it takes to be a high-performance athlete.
Off
the field, Dion enjoys the laid-back lifestyle that living in Melbourne offers.
He is passionate about family
and
his Italian culture - both giving him a love for food and cooking and he
commends his mother for her extraordinary culinary skills. Travel and property are always close to
Dion’s heart. Having bought his first
property at age 21 and renovated his current home, Dion loves nothing more
than using his knowledge of the property market to help his team mates at
Richmond with rentals and buying. He
also holds a Certificate 4 in Building Construction.
Dion’s easy-going personality and down to earth nature and authenticity allows him to share stories of his varied experiences with others in an engaging and enlightening manner - making him a favourite with the media, AFL fans and the general public. His professional approach and popularity, make him a pleasure to work with and a valuable ambassador.
