Cutler was recruited during the 2013 NAB AFL Draft by the Brisbane Lions. A medium defender, who exercises elite disposal and acceleration, Cutler has proven his ability at senior level.
As a junior, Cutler accumulated various accolades, including the 2012 TAC Cup Premiership with Oakleigh Chargers, U18 Vic Metro representation and induction to the AIS-AFL Academy in late 2012. Tom made his first debut for the Brisbane Lions in 2014 in round 4 against Port Adelaide. Since then, he has continued to develop and progress as a senior player. At the conclusion of the 2016 season, Cutler was recognised by the Lions as the Most Professional Player.
2018 was a breakthrough year for Tom playing well in 18 games, known for connecting defence to attack with his power running and huge right foot.
However, he was starved for opportunities in 2019 playing only 3 games. Cutler was traded to Essendon at the conclusion of the season in hopes of more senior starts and a fresh start.
