Lauren Arnell was crowned as the first captain of the Carlton Football Club AFLW team in 2016 ahead of the inaugural 2017 season. Growing up in country Victoria, Lauren first played AFL at the age of 17 for North Ballarat. Since that day, Lauren has imposed herself as a league champion, both on and off the field.

Lauren has dominated the sport, representing Victoria six times, named in the All Australian Team three times and has won an amazing nine VWFL premierships with the Darebin Falcons. Prior to the introduction of the AFLW, Arnell played in the Western Bulldogs’ team in all five exhibition games. Lauren successfully took Carlton to the finals in the 2017 AFLW season, averaging an impressive 12 disposals a game. After two years and 11 games at Ikon Park Lauren has decided to venture up north to new horizons at the Brisbane Lions where she hopes to bring her leadership and experience to a new side in the 2019 season. She strives to being a great mentor to younger players as she pull on the mighty Lions colours.

Along with her distinguished football career, Arnell has emerged as a key sports commentator of the AFLW, VFL as well as ABC Grandstand Radio. Arnell has also proved herself as an emerging coach through both the Calder Cannons u/18 girls as the Senior Assistant Coach as well as being a Level 2 AFL Accredited Coach.

Further, Lauren has been a key spokeswoman in the development of the AFLW. She not only is a member of AFLPA Women’s Advisory Committee however she was also a pioneer in Carlton’s bid for a women’s team license. Arnell has played a significant role in the creation of the AFLW and is currently signed with Carlton until 2018.

In 2018, Arnell moved to Brisbane joining the Lions AFLW side. Arnell made the decision to retire at the end of the season, a decision she announced in April 2021, following Brisbane's Premiership win.

Arnell was appointed as the inaugural coach of Port Adelaide's AFLW side in April 2022, making her the first former AFLW player to become a senior coach
