About me
Max Fricke
Professional speedway rider
Twenty-five year old Max Fricke is the next in a long line of Australian motorbike riders to carve their name at the top of international speedway after coming to prominence when he won the 2016 World Under 21 Championship. Since then, Max has earned his stripes competing throughout Europe and the UK to establish himself at the elite level of his sport. He is also a multiple Australian Champion although travel restrictions around Covid over the past two years have prevented him from returning home to defend his title.
In 2022 Max will embark upon his third year in the prestigious Speedway Grand Prix Series – the sport’s most coveted championship run over 12 rounds in nine different countries. In addition, Max will make a welcome return to racing in the UK to captain the Belle Vue (Manchester) Aces in the Premiership and will also race for Polish first division team Zielona Gora and for Indianerna Kumla in Sweden.
Max’s love of two wheels began at a young age where he tried everything from motocross to road cycling before finding his niche in speedway and turned professional in 2013, progressing to the UK Elite League two years later while also finding top tier success in Europe and then, in a career defining year, becoming the 2016 World Under 21 Speedway Champion.
He became a reserve rider in the 2019 SGP series and made a couple of appearances before making his full-time debut in the series in 2020. He scored an impressive victory at Torun, Poland which helped to earn him a wildcard entry for the 2021 series. Last year he reached the semi-finals five times and ended the year eighth overall – no mean feat in a series featuring the world’s very best riders. This year Max is aiming for a top six finish.
