About me

Kelsey Lee Barber World Javelin Champion Reigning World Champion Kelsey-Lee Barber achieved her lifelong dream of becoming an Olympic medallist in August 2021 when she claimed bronze in the thrilling Women’s Javelin Throw final at the postponed Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games. The tension was immense leading up to the 29-year-old’s final throw of the night and she didn’t disappoint, delivering her best throw of the games yet, a mere hair’s breadth away from silver. After a frustratingly slow start to the season, the product of a 2020 bereft of competition, Kelsey channelled her famous steely-eyed determination and let her throwing do the talking, drawing on the confidence of her 2019 world-stage success and trusting in her gruelling 2020 training regime to perform when it absolutely mattered most. The amazing result marks Kelsey in the record books as only the fourth ever Australian to achieve an Olympic medal in a throwing sport and the sole athlete to do so in the last 25 years. Kelsey became the sixth out of a total of only seven Australian women to ever earn a medal in Field sports in modern Olympic history. Kelsey capped off her Olympic year with silver in the prestigious Diamond League in Europe. 2022 is another busy year of international competition for Kelsey when she defends her world title in Oregon, USA, as well as aiming for gold in the Commonwealth Games in Birmingham, UK. She will also contest the Diamond League again in China and Europe. Her ‘22 campaign kicks off in April when she competes in the National Championship in Sydney.
