At the age of 15, Kelly was diagnosed with a rare and aggressive form of cancer in her right knee. She was forced to make a decision that would change the direction of my life. Learning to walk again was the first step to overcoming the limitations, and then in 2009, Kelly became the Paralympic gold medalist and New World Record holder for Long Jump, plus silver medalist in the 100m sprint.
After receiving the Order of Australia Medal, her drive for accomplishment focused on powerlifting and set new Australian records at the National Championships, World Championships, and the Commonwealth Games.
Though while her trophy cabinet is full, her ultimate and most proud achievement has no doubt been the birth of her two boys that will forever sit at the top. As Kelly chases the pursuit of Paralympic success back in the Long Jump, her weird and quirky personality is fuelled by family, and the passion to show them that anything in life is accessible.
