BIOGRAPHY
An Ex Australian Army Sergeant who served over 11 years with operational deployments to East Timor, Bougainville, Solomon Islands and on exchange with the British Army. In 2004 Gavin was diagnosed with Spinocerebella Ataxia a degenerative neurological condition with no known cure. He was subsequently discharged from the Army. In 2010 after coming to terms with his condition he took up rowing. In 2012 Gavin was selected in the Australian Rowing Team in the TAm2x and subsequently won gold at the 2012 Samsung Munich World Cup. He was a member of the 2012 Australian Paralympic Team. In 2013 he won gold at the World Championships, he was also awarded the World Rowing Para crew of the year. He went on to win the 2014 and 2015 World Championships. He also competed in the 2016 Rio Paralympics. After retiring from Rowing in 2016 he took up adaptive surfing and won the AS4 National Championships in 2017 and 2018. He is also part of the Proud Paralympian Program and facilitates workshops for the Agitos Foundation on behalf of the International Paralympic Committee.
