Video Shout-Out from Hilisha Samoa

Hi my name is Hilisha Samoa. I am a mum, author, poet, skilled qualified youth worker and Business Administration sports star. 

I have played sports my entire life and have had many successes in my chosen sports since moving to Australia from New Zealand. 

I have competed in many sports like Kiwitag, Touch Football, Oztag, Athletics, Rugby League, Rugby Union 7s & XVs, Indoor & Outdoor Netball, Swimming, Cross Country, Triathlon, Marathon Running and American Football. 

I have had success as a Rugby Union player playing Rugby Union for Queensland Reds for over six years and selected for Australia Wallaroo development in 2005, 2015, 2017 and two touring squads in 2017 for the NZ Trans Tasman Tour & Ireland World Cup, where I was awarded the women's XV aside Wallaroo Rugby Union player of the Year, whilst being a mother and employee. 

To date, I am currently undergoing mental health treatment where I have struggled with borderline Schizophrenia and Paranoia and overcome barriers to stay on top of my mentality and continue to participate in sport being positive and active. It's no easy task but I preserve and prosper everyday!

This year (2024), I recently was selected to compete in the American Football Australia National Women's Championship Final in Western Australia for the Queensland Sundevils American Football team. This has now made me a dual code Queensland Female Sportswoman in both Rugby Union and American Football. I now aspire to becoming a dual code Australian rectangular female sports representative. I continue to push and break barriers with my mental health and fitness aiming to done the Green and Gold jersey again for the Australian Outback Women's Team selected 2025/2026.
