AFL Legend, veteran of 329 games, who broke Ted Whitten's long standing club record, remains one of the games true identities. Doug remains one of the games most colourful and bona-fide cult figures, his past performance as an original member of Australia's highest rating television program, The Footy Show, further endeared him to the public. Further media included Live & Kicking,Channel 7.The Game, Channel 7. Grumpy Old Men, Fox Footy. Marngrook Footy Show, NITV. Triple M Radio,Dougie & Dunstall.
Doug is comfortable talking to anyone-from our past prime minister Julia Gillard to a member of the public who will simply walk down the street and call out, "Hi Dougie", he wont put on airs when he is standing in a room of government ministers-he will simply be himself-which is why so many people love him.
Doug loves to talk about his footy experiences on and off the field, his experiences in the media and his thoughts on the current state of the game.
Coaching and mentoring - he coached the Bacchus Marsh Under 16's football team when one of the boys tragically died as a result of playing football and he took the task of far more than a coach that year and bought the boys together to honestly talk through their grief, support each other and walk tall. The team bond he created is something that will never be broken and he made a huge personal impact on the lives of all those young men, and consequently took them to a very emotional grand final win.
Men's Health - Doug is involved with the Sons of the West program that helps men learn about their health and well-being with activities based around healthy eating, physical activity and mental health. He will talk about the importance of being a mate, asking for help. Doug has lost mates to suicide and is passionate about making a difference.
But most of all, Doug genuinely likes people, he greets everyone with a great smile and a firm handshake and makes them feel special. He loves to talk about life in general and to make people have a laugh.
