Grace Kelly plays Gaelic Football at the highest level for the Mayo Ladies football team in Ireland. Grace is an attacking threat in Mayo’s full-forward line and is one of Mayo’s leading top scorers. She has received many individual awards for her performances including Croke Park and WGPA Player of the Month Awards, TG4 Ladies Goal of the Year, and numerous Player of the Match Awards. She was named on the Team of the League in 2018 and was awarded a Western People Award for her performances last year (2018) and a Connaught Telegraph Award for her performances in 2017. Grace has played with the Mayo Ladies since she was 10 years old. She also has had huge success with the Connaught Provincial team and her club team captaining this team to many County Titles over the years.
Grace represented her college team in St Patrick’s College, Dublin winning three consecutive All-Ireland Titles. Grace received a Player of the Match award and also won a HEC All-Star Award while with St Pat’s. Grace went on to represent the University of Limerick College in 2018 in the O’Connor Cup competition picking up her second HEC All-Star Award.
Grace played soccer as a child winning many All-Ireland titles and she captained the Connaught Provincial team and her club team to many County titles. Grace also threw her hand at Basketball and Volleyball in secondary school and got through to the All-Ireland stages in both codes.
Grace graduated from the Cross Coders programme, a global initiative to give athletes from sports across the globe the opportunity to play AFLW. She is moving from Ireland to pursue a career in AFLW with the West Coast Eagles in Perth for the upcoming 2020 season. She is hoping to bring her scoring boots with her to the AFLW for the upcoming 2020 season and is really looking forward to the challenge in front of her. Grace played with West Clare Waves in the Harvey Norman Irish AFLW Premiership in Dublin in 2018 and was awarded the “Leading Goal Scorer” Award at the tournament.
Grace is a Primary School Teacher by occupation. However, Grace has a passion for all things Sport and went on to further study a Master of Science in Sports Performance in the University of Limerick graduating this year. This consisted of creating nutrition plans, video analysis, and designing Strength and Conditional Programmes. Grace’s learnings from this course have helped her on the Gaelic Football Field and she is looking forward to actively experiencing first-hand the professional set up and modern approaches to coaching & training with the West Coast Eagles team to further advance her education and skills.
Grace has a wide array of experience in coaching all age groups, from coaching at summer camps and training underage teams, to giving circuit fitness classes with her sister Niamh to teenagers and adults in her local community. Grace has completed an IRFU (Irish Rugby) Certified Conditioning Coach Course and participated in a ‘Move For Life’ research study promoting physical activity with adults. Grace puts exceptional thought into her coaching sessions to ensure exercises show progression and are enjoyable to participants.
Grace is a former Irish Dancer and has competed at All-Ireland and World Dancing Championships. Grace has experience guest-speaking and presenting to teams and also has worked as MC at Irish Dancing competitions.
