Saker, a wily paceman, took 247 wickets for Victoria and Tasmania between 1995 and 2004. His transition to coaching came with immediate and long term success with two Sheffield Shield titles and four domestic Twenty20 tiles with Victoria as assistance coach.

He was then chosen as England’s bowling coach in 2010 ahead of the highly rated Allan Donald and Craig McDermott. His tenure with the ECB had him developing the pace bowling group including James Anderson, Stuart Broad and Steve Finn. All these players played pivotal roles in England’s Ashes winning campaigns in 2010/11 in Australia and 2013 in England.

Returning home to Victoria in 2015, Saker signed on as head coach of The Bushrangers in the Sheffield Shield and domestic one day competition and the Melbourne Renegades for the Big Bash League.
