Bart Vriends is a highly accomplished Dutch professional footballer who currently serves as a central defender for Adelaide United in the Australian A-League Men. A proven leader with extensive experience at the highest level of European football, Vriends spent eight seasons anchoring historic Eredivisie club Sparta Rotterdam, where he made 215 total appearances and became the first player in over two decades to hit that milestone for the club. During his tenure in the Netherlands, he captained Sparta to a first-place finish in the 2015–16 Eerste Divisie to earn promotion back to the top tier, while establishing a reputation for exceptional tactical awareness, defensive organization, and clear communication under pressure. 

In July 2024, Vriends transitioned his career to Australia, instantly solidifying Adelaide United’s backline and providing crucial mentorship to the squad's emerging young talent. Beyond his on-pitch achievements, he has developed a strong public profile as an articulate media communicator, notably co-creating and co-hosting Cor Potcast, a widely popular sports program that even extended into successful live theater tours across the Netherlands.
