Tom was recruited by the Essendon Football Club during the 2007 NAB Pre-Season Draft. With a height of 201cm, Tom poses as Essendon’s leading ruckman with the added ability of a key forward. Tom originates from Tasmania and was recruited after playing a very successful u18 NAB National Championships for his state.
Tom made his debut for Essendon in Round 11 in 2008 against Hawthorn, displaying great development prospects. With stiff competition within Essendon’s squad during his earlier seasons, Bellchambers was in and out of the senior team despite displaying very positive form. However, whilst the rucking work was mostly occupied through other team mates, Tom showed great versatility as a power forward, effectively fulfilling a hybrid role. In 2013, Tom was Essendon’s second-leading goal kicker for the Bombers, amassing 28 goals. 2012 and 2013 proved to be Tom’s most consistent years, playing 34 games collectively.
In 2017, Tom played 14 games where he averaged 32.9 hit-outs, 10.8 disposals and 2.8 tackles a game. Tom is signed with the Bombers until the end of the 2018 season.
Tom announced his retirement on 15 September 2020, after 136 games.
