Young and insanely talented, Jesse Wardlaw is an AFLW mainstay and Premiership Player for the St Kilda FC Saints.
Jesse spent her younger years growing up in Ashburton, New Zealand before moving to Queensland and blossoming into a talented multi-sport athlete. Competing in cross country, basketball, netball and touch rugby, Jesse was first introduced to Aussie rules after being encouraged by her friends to take part in an AFL 9s social team. After showcasing her natural talent on field, the games umpire Tayla Harris (current AFLW player) noticed Jesse’s immense potential… and the rest is history.
Jesse quickly progressed through competition ranks, playing club level footy and representing the QLD U18s side, before signing to the Brisbane Lions Academy Program. In 2018, the Lions would draft Jesse with the 61st pick.
Jesse made an immediate impact for the Lions, named as a Rising Star Nominee in 2019, two AFLPA 22under22 Team nominations in 2020 & 2022, and ultimately securing her first AFLW Premiership for the Lions in 2021. In 2022, Jesse exploded into AFLW superstardom, securing a spot on the 2022 AFLW All-Australian team while leading her team to the Grand Final. Known for her safe hands, strong kick, and incredible size and speed, Jesse has put together several unreal performances on the paddock and continues to impress as she taps into her limitless potential, now with the St Kilda Saints.
Of Māori descent, Jesse has a deep appreciation for her family’s heritage and culture which play a huge role in her day-to-day life. Many describe her as an individual who bring immense energy to any room that she walks into… and with an adventurous personality, she’s always willing to seek new thrills and experiences.
