About me
Rachael Sporn OAM is one of Australia's most accomplished basketballers, whose career in elite sport, executive leadership and high-performance environments has made her a sought-after keynote speaker.
Over a 19-year professional basketball career, Rachael represented Australia in 304 matches as a member of the Australian Opals and competed at three Olympic Games, winning bronze in Atlanta (1996) and silver medals in Sydney (2000) and Athens (2004). At domestic level, she captained the Adelaide Lightning to four WNBL Championships, was named the WNBL Most Valuable Player in 1996 and 1997, and fulfilled a lifelong ambition by playing three seasons with the Detroit Shock in the WNBA.
Following her playing career, Rachael has continued to lead in both sport and the not-for-profit sector. She served as Chief Executive Officer of the Australian Melanoma Research Foundation for six years and currently leads the AFLW program at Port Adelaide Football Club as Head of AFLW. She has also worked as an Education Presenter for the Australian Sports Anti-Doping Authority (ASADA) and delivered the Australian Olympic Committee's Olympics Unleashed program, helping young Australians develop confidence, resilience and goal-setting skills.
Rachael's contribution to Australian sport has been recognised with induction into both the South Australian Sport Hall of Fame and the Basketball Australia Hall of Fame. In 2015, she was awarded the Medal of the Order of Australia (OAM) for her service to basketball and the community.
As a keynote speaker, Rachael shares practical insights from a career spent performing and leading at the highest level. Drawing on her experiences across elite sport, executive leadership and athlete development, she speaks on leadership, teamwork, resilience, high-performance cultures and achieving sustained success. Her presentations are authentic, engaging and grounded in real-world experience, offering audiences practical lessons on leadership, collaboration and performing under pressure.
