Lani Pallister is an Australian swimmer, who has recently competed at the Commonwealth Games in Birmingham.
In 2015 Lani accidentally entered the 800m freestyle at a qualifying meet and her new journey started in the distance freestyle scene.
After dropping time year after year, Lani was selected to represent Australia in 2017 at the World Junior Championships in Indianapolis at the tender age of 15, she came 8th in the 800m Freestyle and 10th in the 1500m Freestyle.
In 2019, Lani turned 17 and narrowly missed making the Senior Team for the World Championships. As a consolation, she was selected for her last Junior Australian Team travelling to Budapest to compete in World Junior Championships. Lani excelled by breaking 3 Championship Records across the distance Freestyle events, winning 3 Gold and won Silver in the 200m Freestyle and both Freestyle relays.
In September 2020, at the Queensland Short Course Championships, Pallister set a new Australian record and a new Australian All Comers record in the 800m freestyle. The 2020 Australian Short Course Championships were held virtually in November, Pallister took full advantage of the Championships still being held and set a new Australian record and a new Australian All Comers record in the 800m & 1500m freestyle.
At the 2022 Australian Swimming Championships in May, and conducted in long course metres, Pallister won the gold medal in the 800m & 1500m freestyle, qualifying for the World Championships & Commonwealth Games.
Pallister won the bronze medal at the 2022 World Swimming Championships with a personal best time. Lani was also fortunate enough to be part of the 4x200m freestyle relay that claimed a silver medal. She also qualified for the final of the 800m freestyle ranking second in the prelims, unfortunately having to withdraw from competition following her finals qualification, deciding not to compete in the final of the 800m freestyle due to COVID-19.
At the 2022 Commonwealth Games, Pallister ranked first in the preliminaries of the 800m freestyle. In the final the following day, she lowered her time and won the bronze medal behind two other Australian swimmers. Lani also competed in the 400m freestyle and finished in fifth position.
In August, at the 2022 Australian Short Course Swimming Championships, Pallister won the bronze medal in the 200m freestyle, on day one before setting new Australian and Australia All Comers records in the 1500m freestyle. Two days later, she won the 400-metre freestyle and followed it up as she won the 800m freestyle in a new Australian and Australian All Comers record time.
Continuing on in to the World Swimming Championships (25m) winning 4 Gold Medals in the 400m, 800m, 1500m Freestyle & part of the 4x200m Freestyle Relay team. Pallister also set a new Oceania Record in the 1500m Freestyle at the Championships.
