Sam has come through the Academy ranks at the Chiefs to establish himself as a rising star within the game, during the 2017 Premiership 7s that Simmonds really came of age, leading the side on home soil in the qualifying stages and then again at Finals Day at the Ricoh Arena. His all-action displays helped the Chiefs to reach the final, only to lose at the death to Wasps, but he would be rewarded later in the season when he picked up the Singha 7s Player of the Tournament at the annual Premiership Rugby awards night.
That was one of the highlights of a fantastic campaign for Simmonds, who then featured heavily during the latter stages of the season for the Chiefs, helping them to lift the Premiership title at Twickenham with victory over Wasps.
If that was the start of something good for Simmonds, what followed the next season was even better. In what was a truly outstanding year for the young forward, not only did he pick up both the club's Player of the Year and Young Player of the Year accolades, but he was named the Premiership's Young Player of the Year, having scored a staggering 15 tries during the season.
His on-field displays were that eye-catching that England head coach Eddie Jones had to take note - he made his England debut against Argentina in 21-8 win at Twickenham. Months later, Simmonds was called up for the 2018 Six Nations Championship, making the starting XV in England's first match of the championship against Italy, where he scored two tries to help England to a 46-15 victory in Rome.
Simmonds was again expected to kick-on the following season - particularly with a World Cup looming large on the horizon - but a serious knee injury meant he would be sidelined for much of the campaign.
Sam was pivotal in helping the Chiefs record an English and European title double in 2020, scoring a staggering 19 tries in 26 first team appearances. His efforts were also rewarded with him being named the European Player of the Year following Exeter's Champions Cup win over Racing 92.
If that was not enough on the Simmonds CV, he followed it up the next season by breaking the Premiership's all-time try-scoring record for tries in a season - and was part of Warren Gatland's British & Irish Lions squad to South Africa, even featuring in the final Test against the world champions.
