Ryan is a former professional rugby league player. He played for the Illawarra Steelers and the Penrith Panthers, who he won an NRL Premiership with in 2003. He also represented NSW and the Australian national team on several occasions during his career.
After football, Ryan opened his own coffee shop, Girdlers. He is known for his regular appearances on the NRL Footy show with his segment Gone Fishin' and is a regular radio host with Triple M NRL.
