Gino Pecoraro is an Obstetrician & Gynaecologist in private practice on Brisbane’s Wickham Terrace and public practice at the Mater Mothers’ Hospital at South Brisbane, which is Australia’s largest obstetric teaching hospital, with special interests in high risk obstetrics, menopause and endometriosis.
He has been very active in RANZCOG activities including being a previous executive and board member, chairman of the subspecialties, CPD and publications committees, vice chairman of the women’s health committee, federal councillor, media portfolio holder and previous federal secretary for the college.
He is a past president of the AMA Queensland and has sat on the federal AMA council for the past 8 years and where he is currently the obstetrics and gynaecology representative. He has sat on most of the AMA committees including the Finance Committee, the Health, Finance & Economics Committee, the Medical Practice Committee, and the Medical Workforce Committee. He represents the AMA in the Diagnostic Imaging Accreditation Scheme, the RANZCOG Roundtable Discussion on the Future of Private Obstetrics. He is a PHMAC Member (Private Health Ministerial Advisory Committee) – Risk Equalization Committee reporting to the Federal Health Minister, and a member of the National Maternity Services Framework and the Steering Committee for Qld Clinical Guidelines – Queensland Government.
He is the patron and advisor for a branch of the Multiple Birth Association, ambassador and gynae advisor for the Australian Cervical Cancer Foundation, sits on the panel of experts for obstetrics and gynaecology for AVANT Qld. He is a content expert for Clinical Incident Analysis with Qld Health and a craft group representative for clinical privileges review with Qld Health. He is a member of the clinical oversite advisory committee for Hummingbird House (which is Australia’s only childrens’ hospice). He is a board member for the National Association of Specialist O & G.
He is a senior clinical lecturer with the University of Queensland and has been in the past, an Assistant Professor at Bond University, actively involved in the teaching of medical students. His university teaching is complimented by his ongoing education of junior doctors and registrars in his capacity as Senior Visiting Obstetrician at Mater Mothers' Hospital and previously also at Royal Brisbane and Women's Hospital until 2014.
As an award winning medical journalist, Gino remains an experienced health commentator. He continues to write a weekly health column in Brisbane’s Courier Mail and frequently comments on health issues throughout Queensland. He has previously presented a weekly health segment for Channel 10 News in Brisbane and was the Monday morning medic on Radio 612, and crew clinic doctor for B105. He has presented a health talkback segment for 4BC radio and health issues talkback on ABC State wide radio. He provides health opinion for “Today” breakfast television for the 9 Network.
He writes for a number of women’s magazines including New Idea where he has been the resident gynaecologist and remains on the panel of experts for Cosmopolitan Pregnancy magazine, Coles Mother and Baby magazine and a selection of Bauer Australia magazines.
He writes and produces segments for Tonic media’s ”On Demand” TV which is displayed in over 4500 general practices and hospitals around the nation.
He remains a passionate advocate for patients and services as they navigate through the public and private health systems.
