After picking up her brothers bike at the age of three, Des’ree taught herself to ride unaided around the families back yard determined to ride on a BMX Track. From that day in 2005 Des’ree has been riding, training and racing, looking to make her own story for the history books.

In 2009 the UCI BMX World Championships were held in Adelaide South Australia, Des’ree’s home town at the time where She won her first Challenge Class World Title at the age of six. During this event Des’ree was given the name ‘Desi-Racer’ by the commentator, a name that has stuck and becoming well known in the BMX World. Since 2009, on a family promise, Des’ree has followed the World Championships across the globe achieving an additional Four World Titles.

Des’ree moved from Adelaide to Redland Bay Queensland when she was Seven (2010) with her family which was a blessing in disguise presenting some amazing tracks to ride and now with a World Class BMX Supercross facility at Sleeman Sport Complex. Sleeman SX Track is frequented and loved by Desi and just twenty minutes from home allowing her to hone her skills on one of the most technical tracks in the world

Des’ree Barnes is a seriously competitive individual and has been from a very young age whether riding her bike, running or just getting to the door in front of the next person. Although Des’ree has learnt how to win in her BMX career thus far, she also knows what it’s like to be beaten, a key element to the growth of any successful athlete.

Since 2010 Des’ree has worked with her strength and condition coach learning the movements and skills to build a strong foundation as she grows. With the commitment to work hard both on and off the track, Des’ree is striving to become the best possible athlete and BMX Racer she can be, ready to explode into the Junior Elite ranks and Supercross World Cup Series in 2019.

In addition to Des'ree's impressive BMX results she has also represented Australia for Olympic weightlifting at the Oceania Championships in 2017 placing 2nd Overall.

Des'ree is currently ranked 2nd in Australia for Olympic weightlifting in the 53kg category.

There is a fire that burns deep within ‘Desi-Racer’ that cannot be doused, her results, motivation and future goals are testament to this.

Des'ree has a number of future goals which include :

  • Compete at the Tokyo 2020 Olympics in BMX
  • Compete at the 2022 Commonwealth Games in Olympic weightlifting

We found Des’ree Barnes to be a fantastic young role model for our local young people and families when she came to open our pump track last Friday. She was friendly and welcoming to everyone who asked for a photo and autograph on the day. She did everything we asked of her and it was great to have some excitement about the park as she wowed everyone with her riding and personality.
