After travelling to Western Australia to practice medicine in the Perth Children’s Hospital, Joanne began playing AFLW casually after hailing from an Irish Gaelic sporting background.

After only a few short games at the WAFLW level, Joanne was drafted by Fremantle in the 2023 Supplementary draft, and went on to play nearly every game in the 2023 season - becoming an essential part of the Fremantle Dockers. 

Joanne has a BSC in Anatomy, Medicine and Surgery, as well as a Certificate in Professional Leadership and Diploma in Paediatric Medicine. She is currently a Paediatric Doctor at Perth Children’s Hospital.
