Weird And Wonderful Stadium Foods From Across The Globe

From Shisha to pizza burgers and veal tongue, check out the diverse range of foods sports stadiums from around the world.

There are two things that they do very well in the States - fast food and sport.

Suntrust Park in Atlanta serves a Burgerizza – a burger and a pizza in one. It’s made from a massive 500g beef patty topped with cheddar cheese and served between two eight-inch pepperoni pizzas.

Meanwhile home of the Seattle Mariners, Safeco Field, serves up made-to-order ice cream sandwiches. Gourmet cookies and brownies are used as buns and ice-cream as the filling, then you can choose from a massive variety of additional fillers and toppings.

Finally, the ‘Choomongous’ sandwich served at the Globe Life Park in Texas will have you wishing you were there. It measures just over 60cm and it is filled with Korean teriyaki beef with spicy slaw and sriracha mayonnaise. Imagine trying to down one of those at a game!

Toronto FC's home ground at BMO Field is the birthplace of the triple pork poutine. They take their traditional poutine dish and make it epic. The ingredients include fries, gravy, cheese curds, a mix of bacon, pulled pork, and sausage - pretty much a pig in a box.

Not every day you walk into a stadium with a Michelin-starred restaurant inside! Level 8 of Parken Stadium in Copenhagen makes for a unique half-time trip to the food stand with an amazing list of culinary creations - such as grilled veal tongue, shrimp tartlets, and charred potato "in the aroma of bark". Fancy!

Fans like to snack on fish balls and chicken satay whilst enjoying the Grand Prix at the Sepang Circuit in Malaysia.

Biltong is a salty snack made from the meat of native Spring Bok and Kudu, and is a favourite amongst fans of the Lions rugby team at Ellis Park – high in protein and low in fat is actually a pretty healthy stadium food, compared to burgers and fries!

What better way to take the edge off and calm your nerves than some sunflower seeds and a fully stocked Shisha pipe whilst watching your national team at the national stadium in Bahrain!

Though slightly impractical, an extremely popular stadium food at South Korea's taekwondo matches is Haejangguk soup – which translates to “a soup to chase a hangover” and is made from vegetables (mostly cabbage) and a beef broth.

After reading what other countries have on offer, we're a little flat about Australia's stadium offerings, to be honest.

But there is nothing more Australian than sitting at the footy, pie in one hand and beer in the other. Though our stadium foods may not be on the same level as a Michelin star restaurant or offer 60cm long sandwiches, the meat pie is a mouth-watering icon of the game and keeps us warm on those cold footy days.

It is followed closely by the sausage rolls and Chiko rolls, and if you go to grassroots sport you still might come across $1 bags of mixed lollies or red frogs for the kids ... Ah memories!
