Grand Finals are always intense and exciting affairs! As a new era of Australian netball began in 2017 with the birth of the Suncorp Super League, we have been treated to some memorable moments.

Ahead of the 2021 Super Netball Grand Final pitting the Swifts against the Giants, Pickstar have decided to compose a list of its Top 5 grand final moments in Super Netball history. 5 - Gretel wins it at the death

In the 2015 ANZ Championship Netball grand final, the Firebirds took on the Swifts. The two teams were tied with only 30 seconds to go, it was anyone's game. The Firebirds struck and with 15 seconds to go, Gretel Tippett (Bueta) shot the winning goal, leading Queensland to win by 1 point.

4 - Sam Wallace goes for 40 in the 2019 Grand Final

In the 2019 Suncorp Super Netball grand final between the Sunshine Coast Lightning and New South Wales Swifts. Sam Wallace showed off her incredible athleticism and netball shooting skills by catching various long bombs to shoot and score. Wallace took the player of the match, shooting overall 40 goals during the game for the winning Swifts.

3 - 2020 GF

The 2020 Super Netball grand final was an exciting and intense game between the Melbourne Vixens and West Coast Fever. With the game deadlocked before half time, the game was burst into life by a Jhaniele Fowler penalty shot after the halftime buzzer. Putting the Fever ahead by 1 point. However it was the Vixens who prevailed, storming home in the last 2 quarters ensuring a 2 point win and holding aloft the trophy to culminate the 2020 season.


2 - Most Valuable Mwai

Staying on the 2020 Grand Final, it was Mwai Kumwenda who proved to be the difference behind the Vixens comeback to victory. After returning from an ACL injury, Kumwenda culminated a superb comeback season, scoring an impressive overall 47 goals from 50 shots throughout the grand final, taking home the MVP award for the game.

1 - Steph Wood overcomes injury to guide Lightning to Win

The 2018 instalment of the Super Netball grand final pitted the Sunshine Coast Lightning against the West Coast Fever. In a topsy-turvy title decider at Perth Arena, the Lightning overcame a seven-goal deficit in the second term to shoot out to a four-goal lead in the last quarter. Goal attack Steph Wood was injured and taken out of the match briefly after colliding with the goal post after a bump from Courtney Bruce. She was strapped up and had suspected rib damage, but soon returned to the court to become a vital player for the Lightning's victory.
