Matt White is one of Australia’s most versatile and experienced broadcasters with a career spanning more than 30 years in television, radio and newspapers.
Matt has hosted and commentated some of the biggest sporting and news events in the world and also held senior management positions in Australian television.
Well-known as a founding face of the popular Sports Tonight program, White is highly respected for his work covering and commentating Olympic and Commonwealth Games, Supercars and Formula 1 championships, Australian Open Tennis, US Open Golf, Basketball and Ironman.
White began his journalism career at The Manly Daily Newspaper before moving to radio and joining Newcastle’s NEWFM to present breakfast news. He moved to television in 1992 when he became the weekend sports presenter for NBN News, Newcastle.
Alongside a radio stint at Triple M Sydney, White settled into a role as a sports presenter for the Ten Network in the early 1990s - hosting the Network’s flagship program Sports Tonight from its inception, and gaining recognition as a leading motorsport commentator in Australia with the Network’s Supercars coverage.
White then joined the Seven Network where he remained for the next 10 years, hosting the Athens 2004 Olympic Games coverage, 2006 Torino Winter Olympics, 2008 Beijing Olympics, the Australian Tennis Open, Sportsworld and Seven’s Logie award-winning Supercars broadcasts.
He also hosted Today Tonight for four years, The Royal Wedding coverage in 2011, Seven’s 4pm News alongside Melissa Doyle and was runner-up in the 2009 series of Dancing With The Stars.
In 2014 White returned to the Ten Network where he covered the 2014 Commonwealth Games, hosted the Supercars, Rugby and Australian Formula One Grand Prix coverage, as well as the weekly magazine program RPM.
In 2018 White was appointed the Head of Sport for the Ten Network and was instrumental in securing the rights of The Melbourne Cup Carnival, which he also hosted.
In September 2020, White announced he was joining 1170 SEN Radio – Sydney’s new home of sport. The long-time and much-loved presenter will host Morning’s With Matt White Monday - Thursday, 9am -12pm.
“As a sport lover I’m thrilled that 1170 SEN is coming to Sydney and even more thrilled to be part of the line-up. Radio is a two-way conversation and I can’t wait to bring mornings alive with sport, sport and more sport,” White said.
In 2021 Matt was host of the Swimming Australia Olympic Trials and also host of the 2021 Paralympic Games in Tokyo.
White’s wealth of first-class sport presenting experience combines successfully with his genuine love of sport, news, polished professionalism and on-camera geniality.
