Katy started playing Gaelic at the age of 5 and played with the local boys’ team up until the age of 15. She represented County Donegal, in Ireland, at under 14 and 16 level before taking time out to focus on my studies. Throughout her youth she played 5 different codes winning county titles in each; Tennis, Basketball, Handball, Soccer and Gaelic. She also represented Ulster in Soccer, Gaelic and Rugby at underage.
Impressing for club at full back she was drafted into the Donegal Senior Ladies Gaelic team in 2010. She made her debut in 2011 at full back and gradually worked my way up the field to centre half back and now to Midfield where she have played for 5 years.
She captained Donegal to their first ever Ulster Senior Championship title in 2015, having received player of the year the previous season. Since then she has won 4 Ulster Senior Championships with Donegal and made history last year by reaching our first ever All-Ireland Senior Semi-Final losing out to Cork.
Outside of Sport, she is a Qualified Secondary School teacher, teaching Maths and P.E. In Ireland, she is also an Athlete Mentor whose aim is visit secondary schools and inspire young girls to participate/stay involved in sport by sharing her story and the important values she have learnt along the way.
A single mum to my 7 year old boy, Joshua, she now juggles parenthood and work with playing Gaelic and AFLW at the highest possible level.
