Leanne acquired a disability at age 19 and spent the next 5 years in and out of hospital trialing different treatments to be strong enough to cope with every day tasks. Little did she know that when she found sport, in particular Wheelchair Basketball, it would completely change her world.
Although retiring from the sport in September 2018, Leanne leaves behind an illustrious 10 year international career, where she became a Paralympian, Silver medalist , Australian Captain and got to travel the world sharing her passion for team sport with the world.
Leanne is an independent woman who embraces diversity, inclusion and leadership and loves sharing her story to corporates and school groups on the highs and lows of sport at the highest level. Leanne is honest and vulnerable when sharing her story and leaves you with a sense of personal excellence and achievement.
Leanne currently works for Medibank on their Workplace Giving platform ensuring all employees have the opportunity to give back to the community.
Sporting Career
Leanne started playing wheelchair basketball in 2006 after noticing an Paralympics Australia flyer on the wall at her local gym. Leanne began her career representing Victoria in the Women's National Wheelchar Basketball League in 2007 where she was named the Best New Talent.
In 2008, Leanne was named as a reserve for the Gliders at the Beijing Paralympics before making her Australian debut at the 2009 Osaka Cup, winning gold. Leanne went on to represent Australia in every tournament for 10 consecutive years, including 3 World Championships and the 2012 Paralympic Games, winning silver.

Leanne retired after the 2018 World Championships in August playing 164 games for Australia.
