Dan Hannebery was drafted to the Sydney Swans with pick 30 in the 2008 AFL National Draft. His ability to out-work his opponents and win the contested ball displays the quality and value he provides to the Sydney Swans.  It did not take long to settle into great form for the Swans, playing 7 and 21 games, respectively, across the 2009 and 2010 seasons. Furthermore, 2010 was a break-out year for Hannebery as he was awarded the 2010 NAB AFL Rising Star award – he averaged 20.5 disposals in his 21 games and kicked 9 goals for the year.

Hannebery’s 2012 year was another stand-out year as he averaged 24 disposals across his 25 games, whilst kicking 10 goals. Hannebery was also an intregul part of the Swans’ 2012 premiership success in his consistent contribution in the team’s success during the year as well as his outstanding performance on the day. His courage to gut-run, run back with the flight of the ball and put his body on the line at each contest, is a true testament to his character and willingness to win for his team. He has developed remarkably as a player and leader.

Hannebery’s remarkable 2013 season saw him receive 21 Brownlow votes, placing equal fifth in the medal tally. After 24 games, Hannebery amounted an impressive average of 25.29 disposals a game and 17 goals for the season. After four fantastic seasons with the Swans, Hannebery took the next step in his football career as he made his first All-Australian Team whilst finishing fourth in the club’s Best and Fairest award. This form was followed on by a further two All-Australian selections in 2015 & 2016.

Following the 2018 season Hannebery requested a trade to St.Kilda Football Club to return to his home State where he will play a vital role leading their young midfield.

At the end of 2022, Dan announced his retirement from the game, having played 224 AFL games.
