Create an experience with Matthew Mitcham

Matthew Mitcham OAM is the 2008 Olympic champion for 10m platform and the highest single-dive scorer in Olympic history. 

Originally competing as a trampoline gymnast, Mitcham was trained by the Australian Institute of Sport Diving Coach Wang Tong Xiang, continuing with both diving and trampolining for several years. 

Mitcham represented Australia at the World Junior Championships in 1999 and 2001 for trampolining, winning the double mini-tramp event.

As a diver, Mitcham won the 1m, 3m and 10m individual events at the Australian Nationals and later won the 2008 Diving Grand Prix event in Fort Lauderdale, Florida.  

Off the diving board Matthew is an established cabaret performer, well known for his one-man show ‘Twists and Turns’, which plays on his book of the same name and tells the story of his life in and out of the pool.

Mitcham was known as one of few openly gay athletes at the 2008 Summer Olympics and his story is admired for detailing the struggles of low self esteem, anxiety, depression, self-harm and drug abuse, as well as coming to terms with his sexuality whilst under the international spotlight.

In January 2016 Matthew announced his retirement from diving to focus on his equally successful media and entertainment career.

Through his speaking, Matthew dives into his journey of success, drugs and depression and leaves the audience inspired and captivated in the process.
