Premiership player - All Australian - 261 games over 16 year career
Renowned for his resilience and defensive prowess, Ted began his AFL career at Essendon after being selected with pick 27 in the 2000 national draft. He played five seasons with the Bombers before being traded to the Sydney Swans, where he flourished and became a cornerstone of the club’s defence. Over 11 seasons with Sydney, Ted played 228 games, bringing his AFL career total to 261 matches across 16 seasons.
A career highlight was his instrumental role in the Swans' 2012 premiership victory, where he effectively curtailed Hawthorn's Lance Franklin despite playing through an ankle injury. That same year, he was named All-Australian and was runner-up in the Bob Skilton Medal.
Ted’s career is marked by perseverance—overcoming early challenges and a serious injury in 2009 to become one of the league’s premier defenders. He retired at the end of the 2016 season and was inducted into the Sydney Swans Hall of Fame in 2020.
Post-football, Ted is an Investment Adviser and Head of Melbourne at Wilsons Advisory, with experience across the finance sector, including roles at Airlie Funds Management and fintech firm Six Park. He serves on the Investment Committee of the AFL Players’ Association, where he was also previously a non-executive director. He is an ambassador for The Fred Hollows Foundation, a former Sydney Swans leadership group member, and holds a Bachelor of Commerce, a Master of Applied Finance, and has studied Behavioural Economics at Harvard Business School.
