The son of former Geelong player, Andrew, Jed was a relatively late starter to AFL having focused his attention as a kid to athletics, especially Pole Vaulting. It wasn’t until his late teens that Jed began taking his footy seriously and was quickly invited into the Geelong Falcons development program in the TAC Cup.

After two years with the Geelong Falcons including a handful of games for Geelong’s VFL team, Jed’s development was rapid which caught the eye of the Geelong Cats recruiters who later took him as a father-son selection in the 2011 NAB AFL Draft.

With a further two years development in a full time program at the Cats, Jed made his AFL debut in Round 9 of the 2014 season against Fremantle before adding a further six games to his career tally. Jed enjoyed a breakout season in 2015 playing sixteen games and cementing his spot in the starting lineup. Playing predominantly as a small defender, Jed has been faced with some massive tasks against some of the games great small forwards in his short career.

Whilst the 2016 season wasn’t as strong for Jed, only managing 8 games throughout the season, he was recalled for the Preliminary Final against the Swans where he was relentless in attempting to shut down a number of Sydney’s small forwards.

Jed had a terrific season in 2017. Whilst not being selected in the first 5 rounds of the year, Jed came into the team and played the remaining 19 games. Whilst having trained as a forward in the preseason, he was eventually swung into defence where he again shut down the dangerous opposition small forwards. In addition to this, as Jed’s confidence grew he began rebounding the team out of defence with his powerful running ability. Jed has taken this confidence into his past three seasons where his has played is best footy, including a top 10 finish in the 2020 Best & Fairest.

Jed has a keen interest in the property market and construction, where he has undertaken a number of investment projects.
