Jacobs has been an instrumental player for the Adelaide Crows and has been praised for both his efforts on and off the field. The 202cm ruckman made his debut for the club in round 5 of the 2011 season after being traded from previous club, Carlton. Since then, Jacobs has established himself as the premier ruckman for the Adelaide Crows. Furthermore, with his around the ground dominance in both the air and presence at ground, Jacobs has emerged as one of the league’s best ruckman. His large frame, marking skills and clean disposal has helped Sam dominate around the contest.

Since being at the Crows, Jacobs has played over 200 AFL games whilst receiving All-Australian nominations in 2012, 2014 and 2017. Jacobs’ leadership and team-orientated manner was also recognised as he was awarded Adelaide’s Best Team Man in the 2012 season. The ruckman’s ability in the air as well as around the ground has been pivotal in the team’s orientation and structure.

2017 was another standout year for Jacobs as he was nominated for his 3rd All-Australian squad appearance whilst also finishing 4th in Adelaide’s Best & Fairest medal. 2017 also saw Jacobs play in his first AFL Grand Final, which unfortunately he did not win.

Sam didn’t have his best season in 2018, but battled manfully despite carrying a back injury for the second half of the year, playing every game and averaging 36.2 hit-outs. Carried the load in the absence of a second specialist ruckman.

The experienced ruckman had a very limited 2019 due to a knee injury keeping him out for most of the season. He played only 5 games but reached the fantastic milestone of 200. Jacobs was traded to the GWS Giants at the end of the year. Playing 7 games and kicking 2 goals, Jacobs retired at the end of the 2020 season.

He is now Club Engagement Executive at the Adelaide Crows
