Bronte Barratt is a three-time Australian Olympic athlete who is best known for her dominance in the 200m and 400m freestyle events. Bronte has accumulated a remarkable 21 international medals throughout her career, four of which were Olympic medals.
Bronte first emerged as a talented athlete in the 2006 Shanghai SC World Championships where she won both gold and silver in the 4x200m and 400m freestyle, respectively.
At the age of 19, Bronte competed in her first Olympics in the 2008 Beijing games. It was here that Bronte emerged as one of the fastest athletes in the pool as she dominated the 4x200m freestyle relay team, taking out Australia’s first gold medal of the games, alongside swimmers Stephanie Rice, Kylie Palmer and Linda MacKenzie. Not only did they win the event convincingly, they smashed the world record by just under six seconds.
Bronte continued to improve as she entered into her second Olympic appearance in the 2012 London Games. Bronte competed in the 200m freestyle event, where she received a bronze medal as well as competed in the famous 4x200m freestyle relay, receiving a silver medal. Barratt continued her stellar form into 2014 where she dominated the Australian Championships with silver in the 200m freestyle and gold in the 400m freestyle. Following her great national success, Barratt went onto the Commonwealth games where she brought home a bronze medal in the 200m freestyle.
In 2016 Bronte qualified for her 12th Australian Swim team and competed at her third Olympic games in Rio. She made the final in the 200m Freestyle and swam a personal best time finishing in 5th place. She also formed part of the 4x200m Freestyle relay team who managed to win silver with a young team in an experienced and competitive field.
