As North Melbourne’s games record holder, Brent Harvey is undoubtedly one of the AFL’s stars of the 21st Century. Harvey is assured a place among the finest players ever to wear the blue and white. Having made his senior debut in 1996, and continuing to impress in 1998, Harvey played all but 2 games and scoring 32 goals as a crumber in “Pagan’s Paddock”. Harvey had to endure the disappointment of playing in North’s losing Grand Final side that year but that feeling was short lived. In 1999, Harvey was simply outstanding. State of Origin selection, an EJ Whitten Medal and a Premiership – a terrific return for the young champion.
Harvey is now a four-time All Australian and five-time Best and Fairest winner and continues to forge a reputation as a dynamic midfielder. Harvey’s ultimate honour came in 2008, when he was announced as successor to Adam Simpson as the Captain of North Melbourne. The honour was further proof of Harvey’s standing as one of the league’s elite midfielders.
After four years as Captain, Harvey decided to focus on continuing his outstanding form as a player. Having played 350 games, the ninth most experienced player in AFL history. His achievements continued in 2015 when Brent became one of only 4 players in history to play 400 games. Harvey is an accomplished media performer and has provided brands such as Asics with excellent exposure during his star-studded career.
In 2022, Brent the AFL’s all-time games record-holder and North Melbourne premiership player Brent Harvey has been immortalised with his induction into the Australian Football Hall of Fame.
'Boomer' represented the Kangaroos in 432 matches from 1996 to 2016, including the club's fourth premiership in 1999.
