About me

  • Professional
  • Public Speaker

Travis Lovett is a proud Kerrupmara/Gunditjmara man, Traditional Owner, and the Deputy Chair and Commissioner of the Yoorrook Justice Commission, Australia’s first formal truth telling and royal commission investigating the ongoing impacts of colonisation in Victoria. A lifelong advocate for truth, justice, and self-determination for First Peoples, Travis is deeply committed to practicing his Culture, working alongside Community, and preserving Aboriginal languages.

Travis is a proud Aboriginal leader and truth-teller who led the 513km history-making Walk For Truth from Gunditjmara Country to the steps of Parliament House in Naarm (Melbourne). The Walk brought together thousands of people, mob and allies alike, to engage in deep listening, truth-telling, and shared commitment to justice and healing. Trav’s ability to lead with heart, purpose, and integrity has inspired communities across Victoria, Australia and beyond. His work centres around amplifying First Peoples’ voices, honouring culture, and walking together towards a more truthful and equitable future.

He brings extensive leadership experience from the Victorian Public Service, having served as Executive Director and Acting Deputy Secretary of First Peoples State Relations at the Department of Premier and Cabinet. In these roles, Travis was instrumental in advancing Victoria’s Treaty and Truth-telling processes.

Travis has also made significant contributions to the protection of cultural heritage and the rights of Traditional Owners across the state. His earlier work includes senior roles with Aboriginal Victoria, the Department of Environment, Land, Water and Planning, Court Services Victoria, and the Department of Justice.

As Manager of the Koori Courts, Travis played a pivotal role in establishing and reforming the Magistrates’ and Children’s Koori Courts throughout Victoria.

In recognition of his leadership and commitment to public service, he was awarded the Young Indigenous Leader Scholarship by the Institute of Public Administration Australia in 2017.
