The 2023/2024 Freilich Arts/ Media and Activism Fellow at the Australian National University. She’s also a journalist, producer, television presenter, published author, public speaker, storyteller, content creator, art curator, film maker and human rights advocate.

 

Liz has spent over 25 years in the media, most of it reporting, presenting and producing for SBS TV sport, news and current affairs and the Indigenous network, NITV. She loves storytelling and has a passion for human rights, always striving to make a difference through her work.

 

She gained public recognition as one of the first female television journalists to break the mold in sports reporting in the 90’s and hosted the highly coveted SBSTV, LIVE Toyota World Sports national SBS TV program and On the Ball TV football show working alongside Socceroo legends, Johnny Warren and Craig Foster, broadcaster Les Murray and commentators Simon Hill and David Basheer.

 

Her career highlights include, creating and producing the We Bleed The Same exhibition and documentary to combat racism with photographer Tim Bauer, publishing her young adult Lucy Zeezou series, reporter on the 1998 FIFA World Cup in Paris, co-hosted with former ATP tennis player - Brad Drewett, LIVE broadcast of the 1998 ATP Adelaide Men’s Tennis Open (Lleyton Hewitt won his first ATP trophy), reported the Matildas games since the 1990’s and their historic win at the 2010 women’s Asian Cup in China – claiming Australia’s first Asian football title. Liz also interviewed some of the most recognised people on the planet including the likes of – the Dalai Lama, football idols- Pele, Maradona, Matildas – Kyah Simon, Heather Garriock & Clare Hunt, Olympians - Cathy Freeman, Nova Peris, Roger Federer, Serena Williams, John Newcombe, Tony Roche and Pat Rafter. She was also a sideline reporter for the Inaugural 2019 ABC TV coverage of the W-League and reported on the Sydney 2000 Olympics where she met her idol, the late Nelson Mandela.

 

Liz has been a guest on many media programs including Channel 10 TV – The Panel, ABC Radio – Adam Spencer program, Indira Naidoo’s ABC Evenings and more recently on ABC TV’s Compass program hosted by Indira Naidoo.

 

Liz is passionate about utilising her journalistic and MC skills to assist charities including for the Randwick Children’s Hospital, UNICEF and the Starlight Tennis charity event which she MCed for 5 years, featuring celebrities and international and local tennis players – Lleyton Hewitt, Kim Clijsters, Todd Woodbridge, John Newcombe and Tony Roche.

 

Liz is also a human rights advocate, using her role as an art activist to combat racism and champion human rights, refugee, women and children’s rights for and a more equitable and inclusive society. In 2021, she created and produced the ‘We Bleed The Same’ anti-racism exhibition, working with photographer, Tim Bauer, Art Director Brenda Dwyer and production manager/content creator, Izabella Deep-Jones. The show, supported by the ANU’s Freilich Project for the Study of Bigotry, consists of a documentary, installations to engage the public - celebrating diversity and 36 stunning portraits of incredible people from varied backgrounds, race and religion, sharing their extraordinary stories, including Human rights advocates – Midnight Oils – Jim Moginie, Former Socceroo, Craig Foster, actor Bryan Brown, Stolen Generation survivor – Uncle Widdy, Aboriginal activist – Dunghutti elder Leetona Dungay and Holocaust survivor – Ernie Frieldander.

 

The mother of two, also loves the beach, theatre, tennis, football, long lunches, walking her dog, and reading. She’s living her dream, conducting author, media and curator talks, mentoring ANU students, working for a better world by utilising her media skills, the arts and storytelling platforms to inspire and activate young people to create positive change in their communities and the wider global community.

  Liz lives in Sydney with her family and regularly commutes to Canberra for her Arts activism Fellowship at the Australian National University. Liz is also writing her highly anticipated third novel and touring the WBTS show, nationally.
