David Basheer is one of Australia’s most respected sports commentators and presenters, boasting a career spanning 40 years.

His impressive portfolio includes coverage of 11 FIFA World Cups (six men’s & five women’s), the UEFA Champions League, FA Cup Football, the Asian Cup, six Olympic Games, five World Athletics Championships, the Tour de France, and multiple World track and road cycling championships.

Notably, he served as SBS’ lead commentator for the 2010, 2014, 2018 & 2022 FIFA Men’s World Cups and the 2007, 2011, 2015 & 2019 FIFA Women’s World Cups. Additionally, for Network Seven, David was the lead commentator for the ground-breaking 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup, where the Matilda’s reached the Semi Finals for the first time ever.

David's commentary career extends to four UEFA Champions League finals, an FA Cup final from Wembley stadium, the 2010 FIFA Men’s World Cup final in Johannesburg, and the 2019 FIFA Women’s World Cup final in Lyon. He was also a host of SBS’ flagship football program, "The World Game".

Between stints with SBS, David served as a senior presenter and commentator with Asian broadcaster ESPN Star Sports. His repertoire includes hosting the 2002 World Cup today show, UEFA Champions League, Premier League and Spanish La Liga football, and the 2002 Melbourne Cup coverage alongside jockey Larry Cassidy.

David has called Olympic Football finals in 2000, 2004, 2008, 2012 & 2016, Commonwealth Games Athletics in 2006, 2014 & 2018, and various tennis tournaments including the French Open, Japan Open, and Australian Open for overseas broadcasters. He also covered Speed Skating at the 2022 Winter Olympics in Beijing and various sports at 4 Asian Games.

Additionally, David served as the main presenter on Racing.com’s spring racing carnival coverage in Melbourne in 2018 & Autumn 2019. Outside of broadcasting, he is a passionate racehorse owner and breeder, having raced group one winning mare Icebath.

As Chairman of the Bone Growth Melbourne tennis charity, David played a vital role in raising over 1.2 million dollars for children’s bone growth research.
