Alex Carey is an Australian international Cricketer, who starred in the recent Australian summer of cricket, as well as in Australia’s recent tour of India.
Hailing from Loxton in the Riverland region of South Australia, Alex was originally a talented Australian Rules footballer who captained the Greater Western Sydney Giants in their pre-AFL days.
Upon returning home to Adelaide, Alex made a return to cricket by playing for Glenelg Cricket Club and quickly earned a call-up for South Australia at a domestic level.
A specialist batsman who later converted himself into a wicketkeeper, he made his ODI debut for Australia in 2018 having starred for the Redbacks and Adelaide Strikers over the summer.
In 2021, Alex captained the Australia ODI team and made his Test debut in the first test of the 2021/22 Ashes Series.
In December 2022, Alex scored his maiden Test century during Australia’s Boxing Day Test against South Africa, becoming only the second wicketkeeper to score a century at the MCG, and the first Australian wicketkeeper to score a Test century in nearly a decade.
More recently, Alex played a pivotal role throughout the 2023 Ashes in England to help retain the Ashes.
Alex also played overseas in England for Sussex (2019) and in India for the Delhi Capitals (2020).
