Australian World Music star Mitch Tambo is widely celebrated as “a new voice for a generation,” creating music that bridges cultures and resonates globally. His debut album Guurrama-Li achieved remarkable success, topping the iTunes Worldwide charts across multiple countries — reaching #1 in Australia, Denmark, and Malta, #2 in the UK, and #34 in the US. His powerful rendition of You’re the Voice recently surpassed one million streams, marking the first time a song in the Gamilaraay language has achieved this milestone.
As a Sony Music Australia recording artist, Mitch released a string of hit singles including You’re The Voice, Together, Love, Absolutely Everybody, Dreamtime Princess, Heal, Great Southern Land, Silent Night, Yugal Yulu-gi, and Away in a Manger — each reaching #1 on the iTunes World Music Charts. In total, Mitch has celebrated an outstanding 14 consecutive #1 songs on the iTunes World Music Charts, cementing his place as one of Australia’s most successful World Music artists.
Now thriving as an independent artist under his own label, Walanbaa Music, Mitch continues to push boundaries. In 2024, he released Tambo Jamz Vol. 1, a genre-defying 60-track instrumental project that attracted attention from both local and international radio. That same year, he released a powerful reimagining of Tina Turner’s The Best, followed by heartfelt versions of Amazing Grace and My Island Home, performed alongside his wife and acclaimed West Papuan recording artist, Voice of Lele.
Mitch’s extraordinary talent has earned him numerous prestigious award nominations, including New Talent of the Year at the National Indigenous Music Awards (NIMAs), two Golden Guitar Awards for Vocal Collaboration of the Year and Heritage Song of the Year for Come Together with Lee Kernaghan and Isaiah Firebrace, as well as Best Pop Work and the MAV Diasporas Award at the Music Victoria Awards.
On stage, Mitch delivers electrifying performances that blend contemporary music with First Nations culture in a way that captivates audiences. He has performed at landmark events and iconic venues around the world, including the canonisation of Saint Mary MacKillop, Expo 2020 Dubai, the Australian Commercial Radio Awards, the Langkawi Island Music Festival, the Melbourne Didgeridoo Festival, the Edinburgh Festival Fringe, the Australian Open, the Rugby World Cup, the T20, the NRL Indigenous All Stars, Carols by Candlelight, and the 50th anniversary of Australia–Vietnam relations at the Opera House in Ho Chi Minh City. A career highlight was his unforgettable performance at the Fire Fight Australia benefit concert, where he closed the show with a stirring rendition of You’re the Voice, sharing the stage with legends John Farnham, Olivia Newton-John, and Queen’s Brian May.
In 2023, Mitch embarked on a groundbreaking national tour in collaboration with the creative team behind Burn the Floor. The resulting production, Burn the Floor: Walanbaa Yulu-gi, fused First Nations culture and music with ballroom and Latin dance, delivering an inspirational and genre-defying experience that earned widespread critical and audience acclaim.
Beyond music, Mitch is a gifted presenter and advocate. He has hosted Blak Excellence for Meta, the Yarning Strong series (both online and live), and the children’s TV series MusoMagic Outback Tracks, celebrating inspiring stories from remote Aboriginal communities. He also voiced Tez the Echidna in a festive Outback Christmas special.
In 2024, Mitch launched his most ambitious initiative to date — the Walanbaa Youth Tour. Over eight months, he travelled across Australia, visiting schools and educational institutions to inspire students and teachers with his powerful performances, heartfelt life lessons, and empowering messages of identity, belonging, and resilience. With more than 100 appearances, educators widely praised Mitch’s dynamic, high-energy delivery, describing him as “a man with a clear sense of purpose, culture, and community connection.”
Building on that momentum, in 2025 Mitch expanded the tour into the even more ambitious I AM ME Youth Tour, delivering uplifting performances and empowerment programs to over 45,000 children and young people across the country. The tour has received overwhelming praise for its messages of self-belief, inclusion, and cultural pride.
In September 2025, Mitch will take this message further with the release of his first illustrated children’s book, I AM ME, through leading Australian publisher Allen & Unwin. The book is a joyful celebration of identity, confidence, and belonging — inspired by Mitch’s own journey and work with young people.
Mitch also recently appeared as a guest reporter on Nine’s Postcards, bringing his warmth and charisma to television audiences and further showcasing his versatility as a storyteller and communicator.
