Robyn Lambird is a Perth based Paralympian, Content Creator, Model and Disability Advocate, who achieved a bronze medal at the Japan 2021 Paralympics - Making them the first ever out Non-binary Paralympics Medalist.
Robyn began competing in Para-athletics in 2016, and quickly established herself as one of the world’s most exciting young prospects in the T34 classification. Placing second in the women’s 100m for the T34 classification at the 2018 World Para-athletics Grand Prix in Nottwil, where she competed against a field of seasoned Paralympians. In November 2019, she had the opportunity to prove to Australia why she deserved the chance to represent her country at the highest level. Holding her own racing alongside some of the world’s most pre-eminent wheelchair racers, Robyn placed fifth in the women’s 100m at the Para-Athletics World Championships. It was a strong performance for the Australian debutant, all but earmarking her for selection to the 2020 Australian Paralympic Team. Robyn’s dream of competing at a Paralympic Games came true when she was selected for the Australian 2020 Paralympic Team. In her Paralympic debut at Tokyo 2020/1, Robyn secured a bronze medal in the 100m T34 final, becoming the world’s first openly non-binary athlete to win a Paralympic medal.
Transitioning out of athletics in 2022, Robyn has now shifted her focus to representing Australia at a second Paralympic in the sport of wheelchair rugby. Although she has only switched to rugby from racing a short while ago, she has rapidly progressed to be one of the most valuable and promising female wheelchair rugby athletes in the country. Creating an impact on the court both nationally and internationally in the male dominated sport.
Robyn also made history in 2016, featuring in Target Australia’s activewear spring catalog, which is believed to be the first time an adult with a visible disability had starred in a nationwide advertising campaign for a major Australian retailer. Since which she has continued to work creatively to challenge society's negative perceptions of Disabilities. Utilizing her social media content and modeling experiences to promote inclusivity within the fashion industry, believing all bodies are worthy of representation. She has worked with clients such as Tommy Hilfiger, Bonds, Modibodi, and Bras N Things.
Robyn has also written for and featured on such platforms as the BBC, Teen Vogue, The Guardian, The West Australian, Mamamia, SBS, and the ABC. In 2015 Robyn’s advocacy and sporting efforts were acknowledged when she was included in Triple J’s ’25 Under 25’ awarded as one of the 25 remarkable individuals under the age of 25, particularly for her work promoting disability equality on and off the track. She also ranked 3rd in the Sunday Times Magazines ‘Hot List’ in 2020 for the continuation of this work.
Robyn also offers services in public speaking and disability consultancy, having shared her story across schools, businesses, and medical institutions. Utilizing her experience as a disabled individual and as a high-performance athlete to mentor in overcoming adversity and increasing confidence. In 2018, she acted as the disability consultant for the Australian children’s television series ‘Hardball’ which screened on ABC Me. Providing her insights as a disabled individual to ensure the script read as an accurate portrayal of life with a disability and that the set was accessible, meeting the access needs of the young talent who was a wheelchair user.
Robyn is also a strong LGBTIQA+ community member/advocate, identifying as non-binary herself. She has spoken across numerous media outlets about the importance of queer representation within the creative and fashion industries. As well as working alongside organizations such as Athletics Australia, Pride in Sport, and Commonwealth Sport to promote inclusion and gender diversity in sport. Most recently Robyn was selected as a Rainbow Ambassador for Sydney World Pride.
